Introduction and botany:

Garden thyme is one of the oldest medicinal and spice plants. Thymus is a Greek word, meaning brave. In the past, this plant was considered as a symbol of bravery. The vegetative parts of thyme have a pleasant odor which is due to the presence of essential oils. Garden thyme is a drought-resistant plant and it is able to withstand a little water. This plant needs warm air and enough light during its growth.

Thyme is a woody and perennial plant. The origin of this plant is  Mediterranean areas . It has straight roots and is somewhat woody with many branches. The stem of this plant is straight and rectangular with different heights and and it depends on the climatic conditions and is between 20 and 50 cm.

Thyme has anti-flatulence, expectorant and antispasmodic properties. Thyme essential oil contains antibacterial and antifungal properties.
